KTON Battery Safety Initiative
“Growth of the industry without safety is reckless”
Jim Holt, Senior Advisor to KTON
Our mission is to develop what we feel to be critical to the efficient growth and development of the electric vehicle industry and to the mobility vertical at large. We are about contributing to the efficiency of the domestic EV supply chain, setting safety standards thru certification and ensuring that batteries ultimately are recycled so that those key metals can be reclaimed helping to reduce risk related to foreign supply and mining.
Our journey began just over a year ago when we started to investigate the EV battery industry and discovered that something as critical as safety testing, specifically at the module and pack level was severely lacking here in the U.S.
And by meeting with battery manufacturers, key OEMs, the automotive testing industry, government funded research labs, universities and think tanks, we discovered that while there is great need for large format battery testing, the infrastructure barely exists in the U.S.
Our goal is to ensure that the U.S. EV market develops products that are safe and reliable without having to look overseas for that capability. We are leveraging key technology partners in Asia Pac, mainly Korea, Japan and China. As I’m sure most of you are aware, the EV market is a bit more advanced in APAC and Europe mainly due to government leadership.
We are obviously encouraged by the current U.S. administration, with its commitment to the electrification market. In Korea, we are in key discussions with multiple private as well as government organizations to ensure we build the most state of the art testing facilities to ensure the highest quality services.
